Introducing the GearFire Blog
February 22nd, 2007 | by GTD Wannabe |I’ve discovered a few interesting blogs recently. Not “discovered” as in I’m a major talent scout who just happened to find the next Wayne Gretzky in a local rink, but “discovered” as in – “Hey, that’s a pretty cool blog, I should keep an eye on it.”
I’ve been meaning to make a list of these new blogs and post it, but I’ve actually been pretty busy with my research. Yay me. So, I’m going to take it slow blogging-wise, and just introduce you to a new blog here and there, when I get to it.
The first blog I want to point you to is called GearFire. The tagline is “Student Productivity”, but don’t be fooled. It’s slick, every well-written, and covers an interesting gamut of topics. Some stuff is new to me, some is not, but either way, it’s well done. And the stuff that’s not new to me? Well, it’s because I’m a geek and have long since mastered the concept that doc1.doc file names are bad.
I recommend checking this blog out, especially if you’re interested in GTD, general productivity, getting the most of your PC, or all of the above. Some of my favourite posts have been:
- How to Boost Your Productivity when Feeling Down
- Quick Tip: How to close or tile multiple windows easily (I didn’t know this!)
- Top 10 Most Productive Firefox Extensions
- The Dual Screen Suggestion (Two is so much better than one. In fact, I wish I could figure out how to use three with my laptop!)

I use three monitors with a laptop. You can buy a USB to VGA adapter. The speed/quality is not amazing, however in certain circumstances i.e. when you need to refer to 2 seperate documents and work on a 3rd, then it is invaluable. I would also recommend ultramon with a three monitor setup.

@Mathew and @Alexander: Thanks for the suggestions – awesome. I managed to find a solution, based on you two pointing me in the right direction. See http://gtdwannabe.blogspot.com/2007/02/triple-monitor-goodness.html
